Weather and Travel

Rain, fog, hurricanes, heat, floods…they’re not what you want to encounter when you’re on vacation. But, even the most well laid plans are no match for inclement weather. Try to keep your vacation on track with these tips on how to handle bad weather during your vacation:

Do your research
Before you even plan your vacation, do some quick research on your destination. Do they have hurricane season? Or rainy season? When is it? You can easily find the most optimal time to travel with a few minutes of research.

Pack for all weather
Always be prepared. Even if you’re planning on enjoying sun and 70-degree days in Florida, there’s sure to be a rain shower, so bring an extra poncho and umbrella. Even the warmest places can get chilly at night. Make sure you have a sweater on hand. Remember the saying, “There’s no bad weather, only bad clothing.”

Make alternate plans
Even if you can't do the scuba tour you planned or you’re missing that outdoor hike, there are plenty of alternatives at every travel destination. Make an alternate plan. Find a museum. Explore local cuisine. If you’re not sure what’s around, call your AAA Travel Agent or ask a hotel concierge.

Relocate
Depending on where you are, you might be able to travel 20-30 minutes and find another climate you can enjoy. Traveling outside of big tourist destinations, you might just find a hidden gem to enjoy.
