According to the Department of State, processing times are taking 10-13 weeks and does not include mail times which may take an additional 2 weeks for applications to arrive by mail at a passport agency and another 2 weeks for you to receive a completed passport in the mail.

Applying in Person
Applying for a New Passport
Apply in person at an authorized Passport Application Acceptance Facility if at least one of the following is true:
- You are applying for your first U.S. passport
- You are under age 16
- Your previous U.S. passport was issued when you were under age 16
- Your previous U.S. passport was lost, stolen, or damaged
- Your previous U.S. passport was issued more than 15 years ago
Print and complete form DS-11, gather necessary documents & fees, and get your passport photos prior to visiting the acceptance facility.

Renewing a Passport
You can renew your U.S. Passport by mail if you answer 'yes' to all 5 statements:
- You have your passport in your possession to submit with your application.
- It's undamaged other than normal wear and tear.
- Was issued when you were age 16 or older.
- Was issued within the last 15 years.
- Was issued in your current name or you can document your name change.
If you answered 'no' to any statement, you must apply in person.
Print and complete form DS-82, gather necessary documents & fees, and get your passport photos to renew by mail.
